The final version of the new Ukrainian spelling may be published at the end of this year after finalization. Director of the Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, doctor of philological sciences, professor Pavlo Hrytsenko said in an interview that the institute is working on correcting spelling errors and preparing the text for its publication.
"We understand the current situation and are working to eliminate spelling errors. We are preparing the text that should be there," said Hrytsenko.
In his words, “spelling should be shortened, remove what is related to self-evident things that can be found in the dictionary. There is a spelling dictionary, which should be an appendix to spelling, where complex forms will be given."
Hrytsenko also noted that the revised version of the spelling will be submitted to the Language Standards Commission for approval. "Now neither the Cabinet of Ministers nor the Ministry of Education will be involved, and the cap of the National Academy of Sciences is no longer needed. Now such a way must be implemented," he added.
Regarding the completion of editing the spelling, Hrytsenko replied that "the issue is relevant, but we need to wait until the end of the current year for the publication of the final version."
