Surfing in Ukraine is now officially recognized as a sport entered into the Register of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Along with surfing, lacrosse, kudo, padel and taekball were added to the list of recognized sports, while some such as JKA WF karate, mini golf, ultralight aircraft sports and fitness were excluded.
The decision to recognize water polo, sports and rhythmic gymnastics, ice skating and sports tourism as sports for persons with disabilities who have damage to the musculoskeletal system, impaired vision, hearing, and mental and physical development was also canceled.
Odesa, which hosted the first surfing competitions in Ukraine in 2018, is celebrated as a place where Ukrainian surfers made an impressive leap and achieved a significant result. The PR Batteries agency expressed its gratitude for the official recognition of surfing in Ukraine and support for the competition in Odessa.
It should be noted that surfing made its official debut at the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, and the next Games will be held in Paris in July 2024. Currently, Ukraine has 38 Olympic licenses, which guarantees its participation in various tournaments, such as athletics, football, swimming, rowing and others.
