On the night of May 1, Russian occupiers carried out a massive drone strike on Odessa, killing an elderly couple and sharply increasing the number of injured to 15. This was reported by the Odessa Regional Prosecutor's Office.
Russian drones hit a 16-story building, private and multi-apartment residential buildings, an educational institution, shops and cars. As the spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office, Iryna Kovalenko, specified, among the victims were the residents of the 16-story residential complex, where a large-scale fire broke out due to the hit.
The impact killed a man (born in 1943) and a woman (born in 1955). According to preliminary information, the deceased were a married couple. It was also reported that one of the railway workers died in his own home.
In addition to residential buildings, enemy drones also damaged the railway infrastructure of the Odessa region - tracks, contact networks and three freight cars were damaged. At the same time, Ukrzaliznytsia reported that passenger trains continue to run according to the schedule, and freight trains are currently traveling on alternative routes.
Fires broke out at the impact sites, which were extinguished by rescuers from the State Emergency Service. More than 200 people were evacuated from one of the damaged high-rise buildings.
Law enforcement officers have already opened criminal proceedings into the fact of a war crime that resulted in human casualties. An assessment of the extent of the damage is ongoing.
