Odessa commander enlisted an acquaintance in a unit to avoid mobilization

Investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation, in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine, have completed an investigation into the former commander of one of the military units in the Odessa region, who illegally enlisted his acquaintance.

According to the investigation, at the end of 2022, the official, seeking to "help" his comrade avoid mobilization, appointed him to the position of mechanic in the military unit entrusted to him.

In reality, the fictitious serviceman did not serve, but continued to engage in entrepreneurial activities in the rear. At the same time, he received financial support intended for military personnel for more than six months.

The scheme was exposed, and the losses caused to the state were fully compensated.

The former commander is charged with abuse of office (Part 1, Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The indictment has already been sent to court.

If found guilty, he faces a sentence of up to three years in prison with the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions.
