The Prosecutor General's Office has started criminal proceedings on the shooting of Ukrainian prisoners of war

The Ukrainian prosecutor's office has started an investigation into the terrible act of the Russian occupiers, who shot three Ukrainian prisoners of war near Robotyny, Zaporizhzhia region. The incident occurred during a combat clash between the Russian army and the Defense Forces of Ukraine in December 2023.

According to the information of the Prosecutor General's Office, criminal proceedings have been initiated based on the fact of violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The prosecutor's office emphasized that this is a gross violation of international humanitarian law regarding the treatment of prisoners of war.

The corresponding video, which recorded this terrible act, was distributed on the Internet. The video shows how Russian servicemen shoot Ukrainian defenders who were captured by them, violating all international norms and conventions.

During the last month, other cases of the use of Ukrainian prisoners of war as "human shields" on the conflict lines were also recorded. The Russian occupiers are committing war crimes, which are the subject of a pre-trial investigation.

OGP emphasized that this is only one of many cases of brutal violation of human rights and international humanitarian law by Russia, which continues its aggression against Ukraine. The authorities of Ukraine call on the international community to condemn these actions and ensure responsibility for the crimes committed.
