The President of Belarus Oleksandr Lukashenko accused Ukraine of violating the airspace of Belarus, saying that Ukrainian drones were allegedly shot down by the Belarusian air defense system. These statements were made after Lukashenko reported on the incident, which, according to him, happened on the evening of August 9.
According to the Belarusian leader, on the evening of August 9, the Air Force and Air Defense Forces of Belarus were put on high alert after about a dozen drones allegedly violated the country's airspace. Lukashenko noted that several of these drones were destroyed at an altitude of one and a half kilometers already at 19:04.
"At night and in the morning, the search for wreckage is being conducted, we suspect that it was an attack drone. They violated our airspace and flew from the side of Ukraine," Lukashenko said. He also claims that other drones were "transferred" to Russia, noting that Belarus and Russia have a joint air defense system.
Lukashenko added that the drones were initially allegedly aimed at Smolensk, but changed their trajectory and headed for Yaroslavl. According to him, all targets were intercepted by the Russian air defense system.
Noting the seriousness of the situation, Lukashenko threatened that any further provocations would remain unanswered. These statements continue the tense situation in the region and highlight the growing tension between Belarus and Ukraine.
As of now, there is no confirmation from Ukrainian officials about Ukraine's involvement in the incident. It is important to note that such accusations can have a significant impact on international relations and regional security.
