Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Honcharenko has sent an official request to Ukrposhta Director General Ihor Smilyanskyi, demanding that he explain the sources and justification of his significant income. The MP reported this on his Telegram channel.
According to information, Smilyansky's salary ranges from 720 to 800 thousand hryvnias per month, which, according to Honcharenko, is 14 times higher than the salary of a soldier on the front line.
“It is interesting to know why he receives such a salary. I submitted a parliamentary inquiry to Mr. Smilyansky regarding his fantastic earnings, because in reality these figures look very strange. Given the conditions at the front, I cannot understand why the CEO receives such a huge amount,” Honcharenko noted.
The request states that the salary of the General Director of Ukrposhta should not exceed 800 thousand hryvnias, taking into account the basic salary conditions for postmen or the minimum wage in Ukraine. Such a salary cannot be explained by the usually specified standards.

This is not the first criticism of Smilyansky's activities. In 2020, NABU opened proceedings regarding possible abuses and receiving illegal benefits by the head of Ukrposhta, when his annual salary was 1.9 million hryvnias.
The deputies intend to obtain clarification on whether such revenues are appropriate given the economic situation in the country and whether they are affected by the lack of transparency in the calculations.
Let us remind you that the loss-making state-owned Ukrposhta pays Director General Ihor Smilyanskyi more than UAH 1.5 million in salary every month.
