In three months, the Russian language should almost completely disappear from Ukrainian television, said Language Ombudsman Taras Kremin.
He wrote that on July 17, paragraph 6 of part 8 of Article 40 of the Law "On Media" comes into force, which tightens the requirements for the use of the state language in Ukrainian-language programs.
According to the ombudsman, after July 17, the use of non-state language on air is allowed only in stable expressions, short phrases, or individual words approved by the program participants.
"All speeches, interviews, comments, explanations, questions, and individual remarks in a non-state language must be translated, dubbed, or voiced in Ukrainian. This will contribute to the cessation of the Ukrainian-Russian bilingualism regime on television and radio," Kremin said.
At the same time, according to him, the law still allows no more than 10% of the broadcast in Russian between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.
