At the Shehyny-Medica checkpoint, customs officers uncovered an attempt to illegally import a 2022 BMW X5 premium car into Ukraine under the guise of humanitarian aid.
This was reported by Lviv customs after checking the legality of the import of a vehicle that was headed to Ukraine with the appropriate shipping documents.
According to the documents submitted, the premium crossover was allegedly transported to the address of one of the charitable foundations in Kharkiv. The documents stated that the car was being donated by American donors for subsequent transfer to a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
However, during a detailed inspection of the vehicle and verification of the information, customs officers discovered discrepancies. It turned out that the actual sender of the car was a Lithuanian company, while the recipient in the documents was an ordinary citizen of Ukraine, and not a charitable organization or military unit.
The cost of the car, according to customs officials, exceeds 2 million hryvnias.
According to customs, the head of the charitable foundation submitted documents to customs authorities with false information. This includes distorted data regarding the sender, recipient, cost of the vehicle, and nature of the goods, which they tried to register as humanitarian aid.
As a result, customs officers drew up a report on violation of customs rules under Part 1 of Article 483 of the Customs Code of Ukraine.
In addition, information about the incident has been transferred to the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in Lviv region. Law enforcement officers will consider the possible presence of signs of a criminal offense under Article 201-4 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - illegal use of humanitarian aid.
The circumstances of the case are currently being established.
