On the night of August 31, a fatal road accident involving a regular bus occurred in the Bashtansky district of the Mykolaiv region. This was reported by the press service of the National Police of the region.
According to preliminary data, at about 02:00, the 46-year-old driver of a Volkswagen Crafter minibus operating the Odesa-Dnipro route lost control at the intersection of the H-11 Dnipro-Mykolaiv highway and the railway track. The bus flew into a ditch, overturned, and then crashed into a stationary railway crossing post.
There were 20 passengers in the cabin. Three people died in the accident – a 17-year-old girl and a couple aged 66 and 70. Another 11 passengers were injured to varying degrees of severity, including two children aged 6 and 12. All the injured were taken to hospitals by ambulance crews.
The bus driver was detained. Criminal proceedings have been opened under the article "Violation of road traffic safety rules or transport operation by persons driving vehicles." The article provides for up to 10 years in prison.
