World leaders discuss the possibility of creating two separate peacekeeping missions for Ukraine: one under the auspices of the UN, the other with military contingents of the Western countries. About it reports the Italian newspaper La Repubblica with reference to sources.
According to previous plans, the first mission under the UN patronage may consist of military contingents of Asia and South America, including India, Brazil, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. These forces are expected to control the collision line between Ukrainian and Russian troops. However, Indonesia has already denied that she had received a request for the placement of her peacekeepers.
The second contingent will consist of military from the Western countries that will be located on the border of Ukraine with the European Union. They are likely to be in strengthening the security and control of the situation in the West.
According to sources, the US is ready to provide comprehensive support for the implementation of this plan, including the supply of modern equipment, satellite monitoring, radar systems and other logistics assistance.
This project causes ambiguous reactions. On the one hand, the involvement of international peacekeeping forces may reduce the risks of further escalation. On the other hand, there are questions about the real efficiency of such missions and their interaction with the Ukrainian military.
