Our sources in the President's Office report that Andriy Yermak has instructed law enforcement agencies to step up work on Petro Poroshenko and his political entourage. The reason for this step, according to insiders, was the increased criticism of Zelenskyi by deputies and supporters of Poroshenko.
OP believes that in conditions of international instability and growing pressure on Ukraine, it is important to maintain control over the political and information field. This should help minimize reputational losses for the current government.
According to sources, Bankova is concerned that criticism of Poroshenko and his entourage may undermine support for Zelenskyi among Ukrainian society and international partners.
This is not the first time that relations between OP and Poroshenko have become strained. In recent years, Poroshenko has repeatedly become the object of investigations, which his supporters call politically motivated. At the same time, Eurosolidarity's criticism of the government's actions in the international arena and within the country is not weakening.
Such a development may have several scenarios:
- Escalation of the political conflict. Intensification of investigations against Poroshenko may lead to a new round of confrontation between the authorities and the opposition.
- International reaction. If the actions of the security forces are seen as persecution of the opposition, it may provoke criticism from Western partners who support democratic values.
- Increasing informational pressure. Bankova can use the media resource to discredit opponents.
Will Bankova take decisive steps against Poroshenko, despite the risk of losing her reputation in the international arena? And how will the Western partners, who are closely monitoring the state of democracy in Ukraine, react to this?
