Ukrainian cities may face a large-scale heating collapse this winter if the situation does not change. Such a statement was made by the head of the Union of Utilities Consumers Oleg Popenko in an interview for the BBC, emphasizing that problems with heat supply are already felt in some regions, such as Kryvyi Rih.
In Zelenskyi's hometown, about 130,000 residents were left without heating in November. There is no heat in dozens of schools, hospitals and kindergartens.
These are two thousand houses. According to the Minister of Community Development Oleksiy Kuleba, 523 remained without heat as of yesterday.
Popenko believes that the situation may repeat itself in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Sumy, Kherson, Kropyvnytskyi or Svitlovodsk.
"When you don't change the pipes for tens of years, this is what happens. There comes a time when they break through in many places at the same time. There have been problems with heating in Kryvyi Rih before. But this year they decided not to do anything. As the pipes were dug up in the summer, nothing was done. "Naftogaz" did not allocate money, the local authorities removed themselves," says the expert.
