The last days have brought certain tactical successes to the Russian army at the front in the Donetsk region. According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russian troops were able to advance in the area of the city of Selidove, putting serious pressure on Ukrainian forces in this direction. Success in Selidovo and the surrounding areas allows Russian troops to strengthen their positions in the southern direction, although the advance on Pokrovsk remains limited.
Geolocation materials from October 22 and 23 show that Russian forces advanced in the northeast of the city along Shchyna Street, as well as north along Berehova and Zahysnyky Streets towards the center of Selidowo. In addition, on October 23, records appeared that confirmed that units of the 114th motorized rifle brigade of the Russian Federation captured the village of Izmailivka, southeast of Selidovoy.
The offensive on the southern outskirts of Novoselydivka and the advance of the Russians to the fields near Tsukuriny testify to the intentions of the Russian Federation to expand its control over this part of the Donetsk region. However, the concentration of Russian troops in this region may prove to be a double-edged sword. According to ISW experts, Ukraine continues to actively defend Selidove, which delays the advance of Russian troops, presumably concentrated on the southern flank of Pokrovsk, a key operational objective of Russia.
Despite the fact that the Russians have achieved some success, the Ukrainian defenders continue to hold positions in Selidovo. However, there is a possibility that the Defense Forces may be forced to retreat due to the threat of the encirclement. In particular, open data analysis expert Yulian Röpke said that the Ukrainian troops managed to temporarily stop the Russian offensive in the Selidovoy area, but the pressure in this direction remains high.
This situation once again emphasizes that the battle for the Donetsk region continues to be one of the most acute fronts of the war, where every tactical victory or defeat can significantly affect the further development of events.
