Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said that Ukraine will remain a "buffer state" between the West and Russia and will not be able to join the European Union (EU) and NATO after the war ends.
He made these comments during his visit to Romania, where security and regional policy issues were discussed.
According to him, “we Europeans do not have enough money” to admit Ukraine to the European Union. “The EU lost the war, and it will have to pay for it, and the price will be high,” Orban added.
"European politics has collapsed. The sanctions imposed harm fundamental European interests, raise energy prices and make the European economy uncompetitive," Orban said.
He believes that Europe now has two paths.
"One of them is an 'open-air museum', in which the continent remains subordinate to the US. The other option is strategic autonomy and, thus, entry into competition," the Hungarian Prime Minister said, as quoted by the newspaper Magyar Nemzet.
