Uman has once again become a pilgrimage center for Hasidic Jews, as over 30,000 pilgrims arrived in the city to celebrate the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. However, not everyone was able to reach this holy place: due to the shelling of Israel by Iran and the closure of airspace, over 14,000 pilgrims remained outside the borders of Ukraine.
"More than 30 thousand pilgrims arrived in Uman. The information is current as of the morning of October 2, 2024. More than 14 thousand willing Hasidic pilgrims were unable to reach Uman. Some of them were due to yesterday's massive shelling of Israel by Iran and the closure of airspace and cancellation of flights," the United Jewish Community of Ukraine noted.
As reported by the United Jewish Community of Ukraine, Ukrainian police officers are on guard duty together with 16 Israeli colleagues. The Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in Cherkasy region also reported that in order to prevent fires and other emergencies and events, a 24-hour duty of personnel and equipment of a combined unit of the State Emergency Service has been organized in Uman.
