The Ministry of Veterans, together with the veteran community, plans to create veteran spaces throughout Ukraine during 2024-2025. These spaces will become centers where veterans, their families, and relatives of fallen defenders will be able to receive comprehensive assistance and services.
Oleksandr Porkhun, Acting Minister of Veterans Affairs, announced this while participating in the panel "Rehabilitation of War Victims: Medical, Psychological and Social Aspects" at the second International Summit of Cities and Regions. According to him, in these spaces, veterans will have access to socio-psychological and sports rehabilitation, consulting support, legal assistance, and will also be able to take advantage of training, retraining and entertainment.
Porhun noted that the creation of such spaces is a response to the needs of the veteran community for medical, psychological, legal, and educational assistance. This will be an extensive inclusive network where anyone can receive the necessary assistance and spend time in a comfortable environment.
Initially, veteran spaces are planned to be developed in Lviv, Dnipro, Odessa, and Rivne. According to the plan, they will be opened in communities with a population of over 20,000 people. It is expected that there will be about 450 of them in total, including 20 in regional centers.
According to the Ministry of Veterans, there are currently over 1 million war veterans in Ukraine, as well as about 3.5 million members of their families and relatives of fallen defenders.
