Over 50 Ukrainians died crossing the Tisza River

During martial law on the border section across the Tysa River, about 50 people died trying to cross the border illegally. This was reported by the spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, during a telethon, noting that many of them ended up in doctors' offices with hypothermia due to the dangerous way of crossing the border.

According to Demchenko, attempts to illegally cross the border through rivers, in particular through the Tisza, are not only associated with a violation of the law, but have also repeatedly ended in tragedy. "We note that there are also desperate people who choose the border line that runs along rivers, trying to cross these water obstacles by swimming or on watercraft," said a representative of the border guards.

He also noted that such attempts often lead to hypothermia and other serious health problems. The State Border Service regularly identifies such individuals and provides medical assistance, but unfortunately, many do not have time to receive the necessary assistance.

The choice of rivers for illegal border crossing, in particular, such as the Tisza, is extremely dangerous. “This is the greatest risk to people's lives and health, because mountain rivers can be very cold and their currents are strong, which increases the likelihood of tragedies,” Demchenko stressed.

The Tisza River has been the site of many attempts to escape abroad, which have already resulted in significant casualties. This situation highlights the importance of border controls and the need to be cautious about such extremes in the search for safety.

Border guards warn that attempts to illegally cross the border through water obstacles can be fatal. They call on citizens to be careful and remind that illegal border crossing is not only a criminal offense, but also endangers the lives and health of those who attempt it.
