For the last few years, the drug "Ozmpik" (the active substance - seaglutide) has become a real hit not only among people with diabetes for whom it was developed, but also among those who are looking for a quick way to lose weight. In social networks - a real boom. In Hollywood - fashion. In pharmacies there is a deficit. But what is Ozampik really, and why is there so many controversy around him?
Ozempik is an injection that was initially prescribed for people with type 2 diabetes. It imitates the GLP-1 hormone, which in a healthy body stimulates the production of insulin after eating, inhibits appetite and slows down the emptying of the stomach. As a result, a person faster feels satiety and eats less. It is this side effect - weight loss - and made the drug popular far beyond endocrinology.
The first to lose weight on the lamp was the celebrity: actors, singers, models. They did not hide that they use the drug not for its intended purpose, but to control weight. Tiktok videos with the hashtag #ozempicweightloss gained millions of views. People showed impressive results - minus 5, 10, and even 20 kilograms in a few months.
But with the massive popularity of problems: in many countries, including in Ukraine, Ozampik began to disappear from pharmacies. Patients with diabetes who need it daily could not find the drug because it was started to buy massively "for beauty".
Yes, it helps. But not everyone and not always. In clinical trials, Seaglutide showed that it can reduce body weight by 10-15% per year, especially in combination with diet and physical activity. That is why another drug was created on the basis of it - the vegious, especially for the fight against obesity.
However, weight loss on lamps is accompanied not only by "loss of kilograms", but also by a number of side effects: nausea, vomiting, constipation, headache, fatigue. Some patients complain of a sharp decrease in muscle mass. And yet - on "boomerang effect": after stopping, the weight quickly returns.
Doctors emphasize: Ozempik is not a "wand", but a serious drug for serious conditions. It should be prescribed by endocrinologists, cardiologists or obesity specialists when traditional methods do not work. Self -medication or use for a figure without indications can end with problems with pancreatic, heart and mental condition.
In addition, in many countries, semaglutide advertising restrictions for weight loss are already being considered. This is a signal: the drug should not be a new dependence of a society that is afraid of aging and overweight.
