Partial solar eclipse on March 29, 2025: how and when to observe

On Saturday, March 29, 2025, residents of Ukraine will be able to observe a rare astronomical phenomenon - a partial solar eclipse. According to scientists, this eclipse will be visible throughout the country, and the best conditions for its observation are expected in the central and western regions.

What is a solar eclipse?

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, partially or completely blocking its light. In March, Ukrainians will be able to see a partial eclipse - this means that the Moon will cover only a certain part of the solar disk.

Time and features of the eclipse

As Google's interactive map shows, on March 29, 2025, 94% of the Sun will be blocked by the Moon at the peak of the eclipse. It will last from 10:50 a.m. to 2:43 p.m. Kyiv time, with the maximum phase expected around 12:30 p.m. While the total eclipse will only be visible in northern regions of Canada, a partial eclipse will cover much of Europe, including Ukraine.

How to safely observe an eclipse?

Watching the Sun without special protective equipment is extremely dangerous for your eyes. Use special sunglasses, filters, or projection methods to safely view this phenomenon. It is strictly forbidden to look at the Sun through ordinary sunglasses, binoculars, or a camera without filters.

The effect of an eclipse on humans

Research shows that solar eclipses can have a positive impact on people's mental health. Psychologists say that such events can evoke feelings of awe and connection with others. Studies conducted after the 2017 eclipse showed that many people experienced a surge of emotions, inspiration, and increased social interaction.

Why is eclipse important for science?

Such events allow astronomers to study the Sun's atmosphere and other cosmic phenomena. During eclipses, it is possible to observe the Sun's outer corona, which is usually hidden by the bright light of the star.

The partial solar eclipse on March 29, 2025 will be an interesting spectacle for astronomers and everyone who is interested in space phenomena. The main thing is not to forget about observation safety and enjoy this unique moment!
