China has no intention of changing its position on the war in Ukraine and will continue to actively promote its "peace plan". This was stated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at a meeting in St. Petersburg with the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Sergei Shoigu.
Wang Yi confirmed that Beijing will continue to work on forming a balanced, objective and rational understanding of the "Ukrainian crisis" in the international community. He stressed that China is committed to reaching an international consensus and creating conditions for a quick cessation of hostilities.
"China will continue to promote its own vision of ending the conflict and try to convince the majority of countries in the world to support its proposal for a political settlement," said Wang Yi.
China's foreign minister emphasized that Beijing adheres to an objective and fair position and is focused on promoting a political settlement of the crisis.
In turn, Serhiy Shoigu confirmed Russia's position, welcomed the "six-point consensus" proposed by China and Brazil, and expressed satisfaction with "the broad recognition of this consensus by the international community."
China-Brazil peace plan: main points
The peace plan agreed by China and Brazil this spring consists of six main points. The document talks about the need to stop hostilities, recognize dialogue and negotiations as the only possible way out of the conflict. The importance of increasing humanitarian assistance, protection of civilians and exchange of prisoners of war is emphasized.
The plan also envisages countering the use of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, as well as supporting international cooperation in the fields of energy, finance and trade.
According to reports, more than 110 countries, including South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, have responded positively to the "peace plan" of China and Brazil.
China will continue to actively promote this plan, seeking to secure international support and find an effective solution to the conflict in Ukraine.
