Ukraine allegedly discussed the possibility of maintaining the transit of Russian gas through its territory in exchange for the return of Zaporizhzhya NPP. This was stated by energy expert, director of energy and infrastructure programs of the Razumkov Center Volodymyr Omelchenko, referring to the information of the Expremier-Minister of Moldova Ion Sturza.
According to the ex-Prime Minister of Moldova Ion Sturza, the Ukrainian Government has negotiated the transit of Russian gas in the territory of Ukraine in exchange for the return of the NPP and termination of firing of energy infrastructure, but the Russian Federation refused this option. I have promoted this idea since May 2024 in the media
Ukraine has stopped transit of Russian gas from January 1, 2025, completing the decades of energy addiction. This step provoked an ambiguous reaction in Europe: some of the countries supported the decision, citing the need to reduce the influence of Russia, while others, in particular Slovakia, were concerned about the possible effects of energy.
