The first foldable iPhone will have a 7.8-inch internal display

Apple is preparing to release a foldable iPhone, and fresh leaks indicate that the price of the gadget may be lower than expected. According to insider Ming-Chi Kuo, the cost of the main structural element – the hinge – after the start of mass production will decrease from $ 100-120 to about $ 70-80. This will allow the company to slightly reduce the final price of the device for buyers.

The hinges will be manufactured by a joint venture between Foxconn and Shin Zu Shing, which will receive about 65% of all Apple orders, with the remaining 35% going to Amphenol. This scheme ensures tight quality control over a key smartphone component, as the durability of the foldable device depends on the hinge.

According to insiders, Luxshare-ICT may join the project by 2027, which will likely lead to a further reduction in hinge prices and increase competition among suppliers.

Apple plans to release its first foldable iPhone in 2026. The device will feature a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.5-inch external display. It was previously reported that the gadget will feature a unique combination of body materials – titanium and aluminum.
