South Korea refused to supply weapons to Ukraine, even when it came to payment. This decision became important news on the international stage, given the global consequences of Russian aggression in Ukraine and Kyiv's recent efforts to secure modern weapons from partners around the world.
A delegation headed by Defense Minister Umerov went to Seoul to meet with the president. They expressed their desire to purchase Korean weapons, including Cheongun medium-range surface-to-air missiles, anti-artillery radars and 155-mm ammunition.
Seoul has said that selling weapons to a war zone violates its laws, and that it does not have enough production or stockpiles to supply all those who want it by 2030.
However, SBS writes that the reason for the refusal may be the election of Trump, who promises to end the war, and therefore it will be "not easy to help Ukraine without keeping pace with the elected president of the United States."
Umerov himself said at the end of the visit that he informed Seoul about the participation of the North Korean military in the war on the side of the Russian Federation.
"We believe that our arguments about the need to increase cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Korea will lead to a tangible strengthening of the security of our peoples and regions," the Ukrainian minister writes.
