Flowers of plagiarism: how the founder of the J'amemme brand, Yulia Yarmolyuk, got into a scandal

The founder of the J'amemme brand, Yulia Yarmolyuk, sells to Ukrainians during the war for 1,300 euros what can be bought for 20 on any Ukrainian or Chinese shopping portal. This is reported by the publication 360ua.news.

In recent years, the Ukrainian fashion industry has been experiencing a real boom, primarily thanks to top politicians, among whom there is an unspoken rule of supporting national designers.

Ukrainian MPs and top officials are increasingly choosing clothing from Ukrainian brands for their foreign working trips, as a reminder of the need to support Ukraine during the difficult period of its struggle for independence.

In this context, the topic of “plagiarism by individual Ukrainian designers of clothing models of major European brands” has become particularly sensitive.

One of these scandals involved Ukrainian designer Yulia Yarmolyuk, founder of the J'amemme brand, whose plagiarism began to be widely discussed on social media.

In particular, Kateryna Ostapchuk conducted her own investigation and drew the attention of her followers that the dress with flowers, which became the brand's calling card, was not exactly Yarmolyuk's idea, but rather the idea of the famous Polish designer Magda Butrym.

So, in 2021, Polish designer Magda Butrym created a dress model with an accent flower, which won the hearts of not only Poles, but also high fashion connoisseurs around the world.

Magda Butrym's work was also appreciated by Ukrainian designer Yulia Yarmolyuk, who a year later actually copied the brand's dress and presented a similar one in her 2022 collection.

It is also worth noting that in addition to Yulia Yarmolyuk, the Chinese fake industry also became interested in the “flower dress” design by Magda Butrym, which filled the markets with thousands of copies.

But the price of Chinese copies starts at $20, while designer Yulia Yarmolyuk sells practically the same thing for 1,300 euros.

It's also hard to imagine how the price tag for J'amemme brand items is formed, because their products can be described as "low quality."

Zarema, in her Telegram channel, Kateryna Ostapchuk publishes a photo of the brand's designer dress, on which there were flaws after the first "release".

According to our sources, Yulia Yarmolyuk is allowed to so boldly sell copies of famous designers to the Ukrainian elite, passing them off as her own, by certain connections in power circles.

About Yarmolyuk's background and "the same connections" in the next part of our journalistic investigation.
