Today, January 15, the United Nations (UN) presented the Humanitarian Response Plan for Ukraine, as reported by the official channel of the Ministry for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine.
In Geneva, the UN and its partners appealed to donors to provide $4.2 billion through 2024 to support the 8.5 million Ukrainian citizens affected by the war, as well as Ukrainian asylum seekers and host communities.
The said Plan is designed for financing in the amount of 3.1 billion dollars and is aimed at helping the citizens of Ukraine through the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and UN Emergency Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, noted the need to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine, especially given the difficulties faced by children living near the front line.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, emphasized the importance of protecting and supporting asylum seekers in host countries. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is coordinating the Regional Response Plan for those temporarily displaced, which requires $1.1 billion.
In general, the UN Plan envisages providing support to approximately 10.8 million Ukrainians in Ukraine and the European region who are most in need of assistance. Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk expressed hope for the success of the humanitarian plan for 2024, stressing its importance in the conditions of a long war and the need to support internally displaced persons and Ukrainians who have left the country.
