Ukraine is actively analyzing traffic on six key routes to assess the feasibility of introducing toll roads. As Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development Serhiy Derkach noted during an event of the European Business Association (EBA), this step is one of the requirements of the European Union and part of the European integration process.
Serhiy Derkach reported that the government has already developed a draft law on toll roads and is currently working on its implementation.
“In order to ensure high-quality infrastructure, it is necessary to conduct an analysis of traffic intensity. Currently, such an analysis is being conducted on six key roads in order to create a toll road mechanism,” Derkach noted.
In parallel, negotiations are ongoing with investors, including the European Investment Bank (EIB), to attract financing and prepare relevant infrastructure projects.
Ukraine is gradually approaching the implementation of a toll road system, which is a common practice in EU countries. After completing the traffic analysis and preparing the necessary documentation, a final decision will be made on the launch of the first toll road network.
“Sooner or later, toll roads will appear, it's inevitable,” the deputy minister concluded.
