In Ukraine, an analysis of transport traffic on six key routes is being actively conducted to assess the feasibility of introducing toll roads. As Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development Serhiy Derkach noted during the event of the European Business Association (EVA), this step is one of the requirements of the European Union and part of the European integration process.
Serhiy Derkach said that the government has already drafted a draft law on toll roads and is currently working on its implementation.
"In order to ensure quality infrastructure, it is necessary to conduct an analysis of traffic intensity. Currently, such an analysis is being conducted on six key roads in order to create a toll road mechanism," said Derkach.
At the same time, negotiations are ongoing with investors, including the European Investment Bank (EIB), to attract financing and prepare relevant infrastructure projects.
Ukraine is gradually approaching the implementation of the toll road system, which is a common practice in EU countries. After completing the traffic analysis and preparation of the necessary documentation, a final decision will be made on the launch of the first network of toll roads.
"Toll roads will appear sooner or later, it is inevitable," the deputy minister concluded.
