While the Donald Trump administration recedes in its support of Ukraine, Russia has taken the opportunity and increasing military pressure throughout the front. About it writes The Wall Street Journal, citing sources in American intelligence and analytical centers.
According to journalists, in a recent telephone conversation with Trump Vladimir Putin made it clear that he was not going to change his goals in the war against Ukraine. The Kremlin, as in the beginning of the invasion, tries to regain control of Ukraine and force the event to stop the support of Kiev.
The latest US decision on suspension of weapons supplies only intensified this dynamics. WSJ notes that this can give Putin a significant impulse for further action on the battlefield.
Analysts warn that now the Russian Federation is betting not so much on rapid territorial achievements, but on the depletion of the Ukrainian army, the destruction of infrastructure and the moral exhaustion of the population.
The material emphasizes that the summer of 2025 will become one of the most difficult for Ukraine: Russia will activate air strikes in Kiev and other cities, trying to destabilize the rear, sow panic and make the West doubt the feasibility of further support.
Putin's tactics are aimed at a long-lasting war for exhaustion, in which, according to the Kremlin's calculations, Ukraine and its allies will eventually get tired and yield. The impulse, which was given by the pause in the support of the US, can be crucial for changes at the front is warned in WSJ.
At the same time, Trump's efforts regarding the "peace talks" have come to a dead end: Putin does not consider them seriously and continues pressure. According to the newspaper, none of the key purposes of the Kremlin has changed - the pressure only increases.
