The head of the Polish Foreign Ministry has stressed the importance of a “bolder” approach by the United States in the context of military and financial assistance to Ukraine. In his opinion, to ensure victory in the fight against Russian aggression, Ukraine needs not only the means of survival, but also a strategy that will allow it to restore its sovereignty.
He said this in an interview with Bloomberg.
Ukraine's prospects for success in defending itself against Russia may depend on "whether the Biden administration is bolder" and provides decisive support between the election and the inauguration of the next US president, the Polish Foreign Minister said.
“We would like to have a strategy for winning this war, not just for Ukraine to survive,” Sikorsky said.
He noted that Ukraine needs more weapons and more funds to create its own weapons, because "this is the only language that Putin understands.".
Sikorsky also stated that Ukraine has the right to strike legitimate Russian military targets, including airfields used to carry out devastating attacks, adding that Western fears of an escalation of the conflict are exaggerated.
“Every time we discussed supplying something to Ukraine, Putin threatened escalation,” Sikorsky said.
The US government's decision to allow Ukraine to use American weapons for long-range strikes "will definitely help," the minister added.
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that his country supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine, and his proposal to place Crimea under a UN mandate to organize a referendum was made within the framework of a hypothetical discussion.
