Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced an agreement with NATO on the transfer of Soviet MiG-29 fighter jets by Poland to Ukraine. However, despite these agreements, the Polish side, according to Zelensky, found “another reason” for the delay in the transfer of the aircraft.
As a reminder, the Polish president previously stated that Poland may transfer MiG fighters to Ukraine, but only on the condition that the West provides the country with alternative aircraft for defense.
Zelenskyy said today that he had reached an agreement with former NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg to compensate Warsaw for the aircraft transferred, but Poland still refused.
"We really wanted to get MiGs from Poland, but they couldn't give them to us because they didn't have enough of their own. That's why we agreed with NATO that they would allocate a police mission to them, like our Baltic friends. We agreed on that. And what after that? Did Poland give us the planes? No. Was there another reason? Yes," Zelensky said at a press conference in Transcarpathia.
The president also reprimanded Warsaw for not agreeing to shoot down Russian missiles flying towards Poland over Ukraine.
Recall that Ukraine has also unsuccessfully asked Poland to hand over weapons it purchases from South Korea. Warsaw responds that it is buying them for itself.
