Police find 15-year-old girl who abandoned newborn baby near trash can

In Zhytomyr, police have identified the mother of a newborn baby who was found by a local resident near a garbage dump on Pokrovska Street on the evening of November 19. The baby was immediately hospitalized, and law enforcement officers began searching for the mother.

According to the Main Police Department in Zhytomyr region, investigators were able to quickly establish that the child was given birth to by a 15-year-old woman from Zhytomyr. To do this, the police processed video recordings from surveillance cameras, interviewed witnesses, and conducted other investigative measures.

Investigators opened criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for leaving a child in danger. The sanction of the article provides for three to eight years of imprisonment.

Juvenile police are currently working on the family of the underage mother. A number of examinations have been ordered as part of the investigation, including regarding the girl's mental state, and the identity of the child's father will also be established.

Doctors reported that the child is being provided with the necessary assistance. Her condition is being monitored by doctors.
