The police stopped the activities of a criminal group that could cheat citizens of more than 45 million hryvnias. Members of this group received funds for the purchase of drones, but the volunteers were not provided with drones.
Earlier, on November 24, 2023, the "24" channel conducted an investigation aimed at identifying the whereabouts of hundreds of drones for which volunteers have already paid. Then it turned out that the police took up this investigation.
The police identified at least 92 victimized volunteers who handed over 45 million hryvnias to a group of "businessmen". Most of the funds were donated by ordinary people for the needs of the Ukrainian military.
Among the deceived were citizens from all corners of Ukraine of various ages and professions, who were united by the desire to help the military.
It is noted that the criminal group offered very favorable prices for drones, lower than the market by 20-25%. This could be a strategy to gain trust and build a positive reputation.
However, most customers did not receive their drones or refunds.
The police reported that the criminals withdrew the received funds by buying fictitious auto parts, textiles and travel services.
The organizers of the criminal scheme were two women who had previously committed fraud in emergency situations. One of them is hiding abroad, and the other was detained. The prescribed maximum punishment for such crimes is twelve years of imprisonment.
