In the capital, law enforcement officers detained a 19-year-old youth who is suspected of setting fire to a shoe store. The incident happened during the curfew, when the young man poured alcohol on the metal plastic door of the shop and set it on fire with a lighter. This was reported in the press service of the Kyiv police.
A businessman who found the door of his store damaged by fire contacted the law enforcement officers. As a result of operational work, the police established that a local resident who lives in one of Kyiv's hostels may be involved in the arson.
According to the police, during the curfew, the young man, passing by the store, poured alcohol on the door and set it on fire, after which he quickly disappeared from the scene of the crime.
Based on the collected evidence, the police opened criminal proceedings under the article "Intentional destruction or damage to property by arson" . The sanction of the article provides up to 10 years of imprisonment.
The court chose a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention, but with the possibility of bail. The amount of the bail has not yet been determined.
This case once again highlights the problem of violation of public order even during martial law. Although the curfew is in place for public safety, the lack of accountability for its violation creates loopholes for potential criminals. At the same time, this incident causes outrage among the public due to the actions of the young man, which could have led to more serious consequences.
