In Chernihiv Oblast, the Seim and Desna Rivers have been seriously polluted by waters from Russia's Kursk Oblast, where hostilities are ongoing, First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection Krasnolutskyi reported.
On August 26, the Seim River turned black, and a massive fish kill confirmed the scale of the pollution. Water from the Seim River has already reached the Desna River, and the polluted waters are expected to reach Kyiv on September 10-12.
Water intakes in the capital and Brovary recorded a slight excess of chemical oxygen demand and increased iron and manganese content. However, according to Deputy Minister of Environment Kramarenko, biogenic and chemical pollution indicators remain within normal limits, and there are currently no risks to public health.
