Poland and Germany remain two major European countries where the most Ukrainians are officially employed. Lydia Tkachenko, a senior researcher at the Institute of Demography and Social Research, told this on the air of Kyiv24.
According to her, there are no accurate official data on the number of employed, but Poland has accepted the most Ukrainians with temporary protection status, and it is where it is easier to find a job.
“In Poland, there are lower requirements for language knowledge, and the labor market itself is already adapted to Ukrainian workers. In addition, social payments are not as high as in some other EU countries, so Ukrainians are more likely to seek work, ”Tkachenko explained.
In Germany, the situation is somewhat different. Although the country is also one of the main trends for Ukrainians, more rigid language requirements are inhibiting employment. Some initiatives to simplify access to the labor market for Ukrainians have been discussed without knowledge of the language, but they do not have clear implementation so far.
Against this background, Poland remains the leader in the number of employed Ukrainians. In addition, according to Eurostat, it was thanks to Ukrainian refugees that the unemployment rate in Poland and the Czech Republic fell to a record low 2.6%. In Germany, it is 3%, and the highest rates in Spain (10%), Sweden (8.9%), Greece and Finland (8.7%).
In addition, the data shows that the desire of Ukrainians to return home is declining every year. If in 2022 more than 70% planned to return, now only 43% of them said in a study by the Center for Economic Strategy.
