In Poltava, a court overturned the acquittal of a former senior operational officer of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine in Poltava region, who was accused of forging official documents in the course of his official duties. This is tax officer Oleksiy B., who in 2017 entered false information into six inspection reports of seized excisable products.
As the investigation established, B. noted in the protocols the presence of witnesses who did not actually participate in the inspection. He handed these documents over to the investigator to be included in the criminal proceedings.
Initially, the Kyiv District Court of Poltava acquitted the taxman, citing the alleged lack of evidence of the charges. However, the prosecutor's office appealed, and the court of second instance reviewed the case. As a result, the Poltava Court of Appeal found the man guilty of committing official forgery.
However, it was not possible to bring him to justice - the statute of limitations for bringing him to criminal responsibility had expired. The court released the accused from punishment, but ordered him to compensate for almost 14 thousand hryvnias in legal costs.
