Zaporizhzhya Cyber Police exposed a 35-year-old resident of Poltava, who has broken the accounts of clients of international hosting companies for several years and used their cryptocurrency mining servers. Without the owners, the attacker illegally operated their resources totaling more than $ 4.5 million, which is equal to about UAH 185 million.
According to the investigation, hacker has been in operation since 2018, changing their place of residence in different regions of Ukraine - in particular in Poltava, Odessa, Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions. He created virtual machines on broken accounts and launched mining scripts on them, making a profit in cryptocurrency.
During the searches conducted by cyber police officers together with investigators of the district police department, it was removed:

data for access to broken accounts;

cryptomamen;

mining software;

specialized scripts and equipment;

Hacker tools.
It was also found that the attacker was active in the forums in Darknet, where he exchanged knowledge and collected information about vulnerability in IT systems of companies around the world.
Criminal proceedings were opened under Part 5 of Art. 361 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine-unauthorized interference with the operation of electronic computers, which caused grave consequences. The suspect faces up to 15 years in prison.
The pre -trial investigation is ongoing, law enforcement officers do not exclude the additional qualification of the person's actions.
