People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak, one of the public faces of the Ukrainian Parliament, was in the spotlight because of declared real estate and expenses that raise questions - first and foremost about their origin.
According to Economic News, in 2023 the deputy's family got a new apartment in the capital, worth more than UAH 11 million. Housing of 134 square meters. m is located on the elite Pechersk - an area where a square meter costs tens of thousands of hryvnias.
Nevertheless, the deputy's declaration did not have a full review by the National Agency for Corruption Prevention (NACC).
Officially, a new apartment is recorded on the father of Zheleznyak's wife - Vladimir Koval. But in fact, the deputy with his family lives there. In addition, they rent another apartment in Kiev as well as a parking space.
The scheme of recording expensive property on relatives is a typical way to avoid uncomfortable issues during declaration. In the case of deputies, it also reduces the risks to check from the NAPC.
The same declaration states that in 2023 Yaroslav Zheleznyak and his wife, deputy Olga Koval, purchased two cars. The family also declared cryptocurrency - in particular popular assets of Solana and Ethereum.
Despite the volumes of declared assets and expenses, NAPC has officially confirmed that Zheleznyak's declaration has not been selected for full verification. And in the near future they do not plan to check it.
The NAPC decision not to carry out the check may be related to both technical and political reasons. The Agency declares a lack of resources to fully verify all declarations. However, journalists and anti -corruption activists have long been paying attention to the selectivity in the NAPC approaches.
Declarations with smaller sums sometimes check, while the obvious "red flags" - as in the case of apartments, cars and cryptoactives - remain out of sight.
This creates a situation where, even in the most public figures, with millions of fortune and opaque schemes of property design, the state "does not see" grounds for inspection.
