The Ministry of Health has distributed 16,160 courses for free treatment of viral hepatitis C among the regions of Ukraine, which is 92% of the total need for 2023. The Ministry of Health informs about this.
In December of last year, the regions began to redistribute drugs to facilitate the "patient route", which will continue until the end of the month. The remaining 8% of the drugs will be delivered to Ukraine by the end of February.
In the second half of 2023, 1,330 health care facilities in various regions were involved in the screening and treatment of viral hepatitis. Drugs and test systems for hepatitis B and C screening, purchased at the expense of the state budget, were delivered to these institutions. A total of 1.4 million hepatitis C screening test kits and 670,420 hepatitis B tests were distributed across the country. These steps have allowed more than 3,500 hepatitis B patients and 16,000 hepatitis C patients to be treated.
The Ministry of Health emphasizes that patients can undergo a free test from their family doctor to detect antibodies to viral hepatitis. The accuracy of the test is approximately 99%. For diagnosis and treatment, it is necessary to contact a family doctor or an outpatient clinic, and then get a referral to a specialized institution. If treatment is refused, the patient can use the "patient route" by contacting the chief physician or the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
