Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, the number of defense structures in Ukraine has increased from 20 to over 62 thousand. This became possible thanks to changes in legislation, new technical requirements and the active work of civil defense authorities, reports the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
In accordance with the changes, the requirements for the construction of protective structures were revised. In particular:
- The minimum shelter height is now at least 2.5 m, which is significantly higher than the Soviet standard of 1.9 m.
- Protective structures must withstand the excessive pressure of the shock wave up to 100 kiloPascals, which is due to the use of modern weapons.
These innovations are designed to ensure better protection of citizens under the constant threat of missile strikes and other attacks.
As Viktor Vitovetskyi, director of the Department of Organization of Civil Protection Measures of the State Emergency Service, rescuers together with the police regularly check the condition of protective structures. The most common violations include:
- Lack of seats;
- Insufficient supply of drinking water;
- No emergency exit.
Balance-keepers are obliged to eliminate all deficiencies after detecting violations.
Expanding the network of shelters and implementing new standards is a key step in ensuring the safety of the population. Against the background of constant Russian attacks, these measures demonstrate Ukraine's determination to protect its citizens and adapt to modern challenges.
