The State Bureau of Investigation reported the return to military service of more than 7,000 Ukrainian servicemen who had previously voluntarily left their units. Currently, more than 4,000 people have been officially reinstated, and the process of reinstatement and closure of criminal proceedings is ongoing for others.
According to law enforcement officials, more than 4,396 military personnel have already been officially reinstated after voluntarily leaving their military units. As for the rest of the more than 2,500 servicemen, the renewal process continues. Every day, this figure is growing, as the Verkhovna Rada extended the deadline for voluntary return to service for those who voluntarily left the unit until March 1, 2025.
According to the new law, servicemen who voluntarily left their units have the right to return to service without legal consequences, if it is done before a certain deadline. The law entered into force at the end of November 2024 and provides that the commander of the military unit renews the contract, as well as restores all types of security and benefits for the military.
After the soldier's return to the unit, the commander is obliged to notify the pre-trial investigation authorities and the Military Law and Order Service in order to start the procedure for closing the case against the soldier. The law provides an opportunity for soldiers without remorse to continue their service and return to their comrades in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It will be recalled that the employees of the DBR detained and reported the suspicion to the commander of one of the companies of the 155th separate mechanized brigade, who not only voluntarily left the place of duty, but also incited his subordinates to do so.
