About 9.5 thousand convicted Ukrainians are already serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and some of them are directly on the front line. This was reported by the State Criminal Enforcement Service. Among the military are about a hundred women who are involved in logistics, communication and medical care.
The Ministry of Justice explains that not every prisoner can be mobilized. The prohibition applies to convicts for particularly serious crimes - from terrorism to sexual. At the same time, Deputy Minister of Justice Yevgeny Pikalov believes that participation in the war is not only a contribution to defense, but also a real chance for a person to start with a clean sheet.
The military evaluates the participation of such fighters positively. According to Lieutenant Colonel Maxim Georin, it all depends on how the command works with them: with proper preparation, they manifest themselves disciplined and motivated.
This experience can be not only a temporary decision for the army, but also part of a broader re -socialization system through responsibility to the state.
