May is the moon of exuberance of nature, but for allergies it becomes a real challenge. The laid nose, sneezing, itching of the eyes, coughing - these symptoms accompany many people during the active flowering of plants. Doctors warn that at this time it is especially necessary to beware of pollen of trees, meadow herbs and cereals.
According to the allergist Odrex Violetta Oliynyk, the main stimuli in May are pollen of rye, timothy, buckwheat and various meadows. At the same time, Professor Victoria Rodinkova, the leader of the aerobiological direction in Ukraine, adds that the poplar is not the cause of allergies, as opposed to common ideas. In fact, it is seeds, not pollen.
In addition to pollen, allergenic mushroom spores, such as alternatives, are actively spreading in May. They can increase reactions to cereals, including those that grow on lawns in cities.
How to recognize symptoms
Seasonal allergies or pollinosis is manifested by a number of typical symptoms:
-
nasal congestion;
-
transparent secretions;
-
frequent sneezing;
-
itching and redness of the eyes;
-
dry dry cough;
-
Sometimes - a rash on the body.
Due to the similarity with the symptoms of colds, it is important to undergo a diagnosis to correctly identify the cause and get appropriate treatment.
How to protect yourself
Professor Rodinkova advises to focus on special pollen concentrations to avoid staying outdoors during peak flowering periods. Also worth it:
-
Wash your head, face and hands immediately after a walk;
-
change clothes and shoes;
-
wear a mask and glasses;
-
carry out wet cleaning at home;
-
Install pollen filters.
Allergist Oliynyk recommends early preparation for the season - two weeks before flowering, it is necessary to start taking antihistamines, using saline solutions for nasal flushing and eye drops. In more complex cases, the doctor may advise ASIT-allergen-specific immunotherapy, which is conducted for several years and helps to get rid of the very cause of the allergy.
Nutrition and water
It is also important to monitor your diet during allergy exacerbation. Due to the possible cross -reactions with the pollen of some plants, the use of nuts, fruits and other products should be limited. And do not forget to drink enough water - it helps to reduce the concentration of allergens in the body.
