Problems with money, fuel and mobilization (along with pressure from Europe, where they fear an uncontrolled flow of Ukrainian agricultural products to border countries) are finishing the Ukrainian agricultural sector.
Thus, according to the Deputy Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council Denys Marchuk, Ukrainian farmers lack working capital to finance sowing, as well as people due to mass mobilization.
"When you sell corn today at a loss, the cost of which was over UAH 6,000, and they offer UAH 4,500-5,000, you understand that, most likely, you will not plant this crop. We will state that this season, like the last, will probably be marked by a decrease in the amount of corn sown. It is possible that there will be a decrease in sunflower sowing. But the bet will be made on oil crops - soybeans and rapeseed, because these are the crops that give the minimum margin. ...There is also a lack of human resources due to the war and mobilization, so it is important to speed up the moments of booking employees," Marchuk said in particular.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy is already predicting a decrease in yield in 2024 by approximately 4-5%. Also, the cost of elevator services will increase due to the increase in electricity prices. An increase in rent for land is also expected - by approximately 5% to $125 per hectare due to the opening of the land market for legal entities.
