The Vatican will join the liberation of Ukrainian journalists in Russian captivity. The Ambassador of the Holy See to Ukraine, Wiswaldas Kulbokas confirmed that he would use diplomatic channels for this purpose.
The head of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine Serhiy Tomilenko has informed about it.
Kulboas received an updated list and detailed materials for 31 civilian media representatives held by the occupiers, as well as one military journalist, captured during combat missions. This data was verified by the NSU.
The Ambassador of the Vatican reacted especially emotionally to the news of the death of a Ukrainian journalist Victoria Roshchina, who, according to the Union, died as a result of torture in Russian captivity. "I pray for her," said Kulboas, expressing his condolences to her relatives and colleagues.
Earlier, Pope Francis called for the release of all prisoners of journalists who were injured in the desire for truth. "The church recognizes in these witnesses - I think about those who report the war even at the cost of their own lives - the courage of those who protect the dignity, justice and the right of people to be informed," the Pontiff said.
The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine continues to work on collecting and transmitting information about captured mediators to international organizations and diplomatic missions. The NSU calls on the international community not to stay away.
