Law enforcement officers exposed a contractor who supplied bricks for the construction of a columbarium wall at the Forest Cemetery of Kyiv with a large markup. The attacker "earned" almost 900 thousand hryvnias in an illegal scheme. This was reported in the press service of the capital police.
According to law enforcement officials, in 2019, construction of a columbarium wall on the territory of the Forest Cemetery began at the request of a utility company. However, according to preliminary information, the ex-director of the ritual service and his deputy, intending to waste budget funds, entered unreliable information about the cost of clinker bricks into the project documentation. They also approved the act of acceptance of completed construction works to the contracting organization, which made it possible to receive excess funds.
The investigation established that the 54-year-old director of the contracting organization overestimated the cost of materials, in particular clinker bricks, due to which the state budget suffered losses in the amount of about 900 thousand hryvnias.
An investigation is currently underway, and the contractor has been charged with suspicion. The perpetrator faces up to 12 years in prison.
