The UK Prime Minister, Kir, Starmer, called for Ukraine to provide security guarantees for a possible signing of a peace agreement with Russia. He stressed that without such guarantees, Vladimir Putin would again violate the agreement, as it was before.
According to the older, the Kremlin's negative reaction to the US proposal for a 30-day truce was not a surprise for him. He noted that Moscow has repeatedly proved its inconsistency in compliance with transactions, and therefore it needs to be increased.
“Russia is an aggressor, and Putin does not hide his imperial ambitions. If he is not going to violate peace agreements, he should not have problems with security guarantees for Ukraine. But his reaction only confirms that he will try to break them again, ”the Prime Minister of Britain said.
The older stressed that the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine will be discussed at a meeting of international leaders, which will take place on March 15 in London.
The Ukrainian side has repeatedly stated that any peace agreement should be accompanied by effective security mechanisms. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has previously warned that Ukraine would not sign peace without guarantees, because Russia can break it again.
In the US and NATO, not all share this position. President Donald Trump believes that guarantees should only be discussed after the war, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said "it is necessary to reach peace first and then to support it."
Western allies continue their debate on how to protect Ukraine from new Kremlin aggression. At the same time, Russia itself categorically rejects any guarantees, which reaffirms its intention to maintain the possibility of further pressure on Ukraine.
