The situation on the southern front is becoming more difficult for Ukrainian troops, CNN reports. According to the channel, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are being forced to retreat in some areas due to growing enemy pressure.
The situation in the Hulyaipol area remains particularly critical. One Ukrainian officer told the publication that the fighting is of high intensity, and the enemy is using small infantry groups to attempt to break through the least fortified positions.
The situation is complicated by a shortage of infantry forces and problems with personnel rotation. Territorial defense units, which held the borders for a long time, suffered significant losses and were not withdrawn in time for recovery.
Experts note that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are increasingly using drones to compensate for the lack of people. However, the effectiveness of such measures is reduced in urban areas, where advancing enemy groups hide in basements and abandoned buildings. The situation is additionally complicated by the disunity of control in the southern direction and the priority of protecting other sections of the front. Transferred reserves often arrive late.
Overall, according to CNN, the situation in the Hulyaipol area demonstrates a general problem for the Armed Forces of Ukraine: a long front line, a shortage of personnel, and the need to make difficult decisions about holding certain territories and the risks of breakthroughs in other areas.
