In light of the need to increase the mobilization of conscripts in Ukraine, the military officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and commander of the reconnaissance platoon of the 28th separate mechanized brigade, Valid, emphasized the importance of this measure to ensure the survival and combat capability of the army.
In his interview with Ukrainska Pravda, the military man expressed an ambiguous, but in his opinion necessary, point of view. He expressed his belief that the majority of men in Ukraine do not want to serve, pointing out that the generation born in 1980-1990 was not raised in patriotism.
“I am probably one of the few military personnel who has an opinion that is unpopular in society, even among the military. If we generalize about mobilization, it looks like this: there is an average Ukrainian who wants to defend his homeland, but we have not found an approach to involve him,” he commented.
According to him, most men do not show a desire to serve, and he attributes this to the lack of patriotic upbringing in these generations. Now, when there is talk of increased mobilization, he argues that this is about duty, and it should not be taken into account whether a person wants it or not.
"When the state demands taxes from businessmen or enterprises, it doesn't ask whether they want to pay or not - it's an obligation. And these people must also go to serve... If we only look for motivated people, we won't even recruit 20% of what the Ministry of Defense or the General Staff currently wants," he added.
According to the reconnaissance platoon commander, it is necessary to make this a duty, and with the right approach, a certain patriotic mood can be evoked among those already mobilized.
