Ukrainians are preparing for a relatively warm winter of 2024-2025, but arctic cold waves are not excluded. According to forecasts of candidate of geographical sciences Vera Balabukh, winter in Ukraine has become much milder compared to the middle of the 20th century.
December
The first winter month will start with relatively moderate temperatures, and after December 15 another warming is possible. Wet snow, rain, gusty wind and ice on the roads are expected. Atmospheric pressure will drop significantly, which can cause discomfort for weather-sensitive people.
January
January is traditionally the coldest month of winter. The average temperature will be around -5°C, but the weather will be changeable.
- The warmest day is predicted for January 31 (+7°C).
- The coldest day is expected on January 25, when the frost will reach -18°C.
- Significant snowfall is not expected, precipitation will be insignificant, mainly in the period from January 8 to 24.
February
February will be moderately cool. The average temperature of the month will be around 0°C:
- In the south and in Transcarpathia, temperatures will fluctuate between +1...-2°C.
- In the northeast of the country, thermometers can drop to -3...-4°C and below.
Precipitation in February is also predicted to be low, which emphasizes the trend towards a mild winter.
Although the winter promises to be mild, isolated arctic incursions and periods of severe frost will remind of the nature of this season. Ukrainians can expect a minimum of snow and moderate frosts, but you should not lose your vigilance, especially during icicles or cold waves.
